Most adult patients seek orthodontic treatment because they are motivated to improve the alignment of their teeth for optimal dental health and to improve their appearance. We can achieve both. Our range of orthodontic treatment options give adult patients a choice, but the more discreet orthodontic methods are certainly the most popular.
These include Invisalign & Clear Braces – these are fixed brackets that blend with the color of your teeth.
What causes orthodontic problems in children? If a child’s teeth are not developing correctly, this can also affect facial growth. Health problems such as allergies, asthma, poor posture and nutrition all have an effect on facial and dental development. Incorrect habits such as mouth breathing, thumb sucking, incorrect swallowing and poor posture are contributing factors of orthodontic problems.
Many research articles have shown that the development of the jaws, both size and shape , are influenced by how a child breathes, and swallows. These habits should be corrected as soon as they are evident. Without correction of these habits as early as possible, the growth of the face and the alignment of the teeth is likely to be compromised.
We can evaluate and treat these problems while the child is still growing , well before the traditional age when children have braces. The best time to gain space and develop jaws is when a child is growing between ages 6yrs – 10 yrs. Orthodontic treatment with extraction of permanent teeth, as well as jaw surgery may be avoided by early intervention.
Our orthodontic treatments are based on TMJ function and physiology, maintenance of the airway and aligns the jaws to balance with eating, swallowing and speech, and of course, a beautiful smile.
Our treatment options can incorporate a non extraction, non surgical philosophy, and extreme cases where jaw surgery is necessary, we are all well trained to carry out these difficult cases.
